Carlex Glass set to close Vonore plant, affecting more than 300 jobs

Carlex Glass America plans to close its manufacturing facility in Vonore by the end of September as part of a broader restructuring that will shift production and expand operations in Nashville, the company announced Tuesday. The closure will affect approximately 325 employees at the Monroe County plant. Carlex said operations will continue as scheduled through the closure date to ensure uninterrupted service for customers.

The Pittman Center Community Volunteer Fire Department could cease all operations by Oct. 31 unless they merge with Sevier County Fire and Rescue, according to a letter addressed to county leaders on Tuesday, June 30. The letter formally notifies recipients that the membership and board of advisors of the Pittman Center Community Volunteer Fire Department voted to cease all emergency response operations unless a formal merger or absorption agreement is reached before the specified date.
