Traveling this 4th of July? Here’s what Michiganders can expect

Higher travel costs aren’t expected to stop millions of Michiganders from leaving town this Fourth of July weekend. AAA estimated that more than 2.6 million residents will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, July 2, and Monday, July 6, which would equate to a 1% increase from last year’s record travel period. The projection includes 2.42 million residents driving to their destination.

Where gas prices are cheapest, most expensive this week in Michigan

A gallon of unleaded gas cost Michigan drivers $4.08 on Monday, June 29. Fuel prices increased about 8 cents over the last week, according to AAA data updated daily. While prices have fallen about 39 cents per gallon over the last month, prices are up 82 cents since this time last year. The situation remains fragile as the U.S. and Iran continue to work toward a deal to end the war and fully open the Strait of Hormuz, a key thoroughfare for global oil trade.

11 road closures planned this week in Michigan

Construction crews will be busy again this week before traffic increases for the upcoming holiday weekend. More than 75 road projects and special events will begin between Sunday, June 28, and Saturday, July 4, resulting in various levels of closures on the state’s primary roads, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Those are in addition to dozens of ongoing projects.
