NEWTOWN – The town of Newtown marked the end of summer in its traditional way, with a Labor Day Parade. The event for 2025, with the theme of "Pets on Parade," stepped off on Monday morning, which was also the first of September. The parade, now in its 63rd edition, featured marching bands, floats, vintage cars, local groups and more. The 2025 grand marshal was Carolee Mason, who recently retired after serving for 20 years as Newtown’s animal control officer.

Readers converge on Mark Twain Library's Book Fair in Redding

REDDING — Book lovers from across the region headed to the Mark Twain Library’s 64th annual Book Fair, which began Friday and continues throughout the Labor Day weekend. The sale offers over 60,000 donated books, organized into 75 categories, for sale at the Redding Community Center at 37 Lonestown Road. Admission is free, and credit cards are accepted.
