For many people, high cholesterol is something that develops over time. But for others, Carolyn Lebeis, it’s something she was born with. "Familial hypercholesterolemia is a condition that affects the heart, it's your cholesterol," Lebeis said. "So it's typically detected when you have routine labs done." Also known as FH, the condition is genetic and runs in families. "My family is French-Canadian, like many Maine families and our Maine communities," she said.
