Jurassic flightless bird reveals early ecological diversity of avialans
Abstract The origin and early diversification of birds remain highly debated in vertebrate evolution. Although estimates of the evolutionary timescales suggest a Jurassic period radiation1,2, a profound scarcity of fossils from this period has hampered how the distinctive bird bauplan was assembled3,4,5.
Bi-allelic EPHA2 mutations cause dysosteosclerosis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and enhancing osteoblastogenesis
|
Abstract Erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular (EPH) receptors, the largest receptor tyrosine kinase family, have been shown to play a crucial role in normal physiological processes and pathologies. EPHA2, encoded by EPHA2 gene, a member of the EPH receptor family, has been implicated in cataracts and various bone tumors, including osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and bone metastases of breast cancer.

Association Between Chewing Capacity and Mortality Risk: The Role of Diet and Ageing
Aim Masticatory dysfunction due to tooth loss is a potentially modifiable risk for mortality, but the pathway behind that remains to be investigated. This prospective study aimed to examine the role of diet and ageing in the associations between chewing capacity and long-term mortality. Methods Data were obtained from participants (aged ≥ 20) in the National Health Nutritional and Health Survey (NHANES 1999–2010, n = 22,900). The mortality follow-up ended on 31 December 2019.

Multipole higher-order topological semimetals
Higher-order topological phases of matter, including insulators and semimetals, have attracted much attention, since they can induce novel multidimensional topological boundary states. Recently, a two-dimensional (2D) multipole chiral-symmetric higher-order topological insulator (MCTI) with multipole corner states, protected by multiple chiral numbers (MCNs), has been proposed theoretically and soon will be implemented in circuit and acoustic systems.
Emergent zero-field anomalous Hall effect in a reconstructed rutile antiferromagnetic metal - Nature Communications
Abstract The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) that emerges in antiferromagnetic metals shows intriguing physics and offers numerous potential applications. Magnets with a rutile crystal structure have recently received attention as a possible platform for a collinear-antiferromagnetism-induced AHE. RuO2 is a prototypical candidate material, however the AHE is prohibited at zero field by symmetry because of the high-symmetry [001] direction of the Néel vector at the ground state.

Development of a machine learning multiclass screening tool for periodontal health status based on non‐clinical parameters and salivary biomarkers
Scientific rationale for study: Gingivitis and periodontitis are two of humanity's most common non-communicable diseases and remain undetected worldwide. The development of an accurate screening tool for non-clinical settings is essential for improving their early diagnosis and effective care.

Coronene Guest Molecule Selectivity in the Host Templates Formed by Hydrogen Bond and Van der Waals Force at Liquid/Solid Interface Yufei Zhang, Peng Lei, Ting Meng, Ke Deng, Xunwen Xiao and Qingdao Zeng Abstract Hydrogen bond and van der Waals force are important non-covalent interactions for constructing supramolecular self-assembly networks.
Enhanced low-temperature proton conductivity in hydrogen-intercalated brownmillerite oxide - Nature Energy
Abstract Solid oxide ionic conductors are employed in a wide range of energy-conversion applications, such as electrolytes in fuel cells. Typically, conventional ionic conductors based on metal oxides require elevated temperatures above approximately 500 °C to activate ionic transport, but the ability to operate at lower temperature could avoid mechanical instability and operating complexities.

Type-III Weyl semimetals: ${({\mathrm{TaSe}}_{4})}_{2}\mathrm{I}$
Abstract Weyl semimetals have been classified into type I and type II with respect to the geometry of their Fermi surfaces at the Weyl points. we propose another class of Weyl semimetal, whose unique Fermi surface contains two electron or two hole pockets touching at a multi-Weyl point, dubbed a type-III Weyl semimetal. Based on first-principles calculations, we first show that the quasi-one-dimensional compound (TaSe4)2I is a type-III Weyl semimetal with larger chiral charges.

A systematic survey showed important limitations in the methods for assessing drug safety among systematic reviews
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to examine the design, conduct, and analysis of systematic reviews assessing drug safety through a cross-sectional survey. Study Design and Setting We searched PubMed to identity systematic reviews published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Core Clinical Journals indexed in 2015 and randomly sampled systematic reviews assessing drug effects at a 1:1 ratio of Cochrane and non-Cochrane reviews.
Does a hyperechogenic endometrial mass in the uterus during controlled ovarian stimulation affect assisted reproductive technology cycle outcomes?
Abstract Objectives Healthy embryos and endometrial receptivity are keys to the success of in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF–ET). Abnormal transvaginal ultrasonography (TVU) findings in the endometrium are a concern during assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments. Observation of a hyperechogenic endometrial mass (HEM) during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) in an IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycle is a dilemma.
Incretin based treatments and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes: systematic review and meta-analysis

Data sources Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and ClinicalTrials.gov. Eligibility criteria Randomised controlled trials that compared glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors with placebo or active anti-diabetic drugs in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on UTIs and genital infections in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In this study, we found that SGLT2 inhibitors may increase the risk of genital infections. The subgroup analyses by length of follow up showed differential effects in genital infections, suggesting that the longer the use of SGLT2 inhibitors, the higher the risk of genital infections. The subgroup analysis by individual SGLT2 agents also showed that differential effects on genital infections.
Direct observation of spin-layer locking by local Rashba effect in monolayer semiconducting PtSe2 film
Although it is tempting to attribute the observed helical spin texture to R-1 Rashba effect induced by the structural asymmetry from the Pt substrate, further analysis, however, shows that this mechanism cannot explain our observations. For energy bands with the R-1 effect, there are two key features as follows: (1) two spin states are split at finite momenta and become degenerate at the ? point due to the time-reversal symmetry (Fig.
