Editor’s summary Natural killer (NK) cell–based therapies for cancer have shown promise; however, there remains the need to identify the most effective antitumor NK cell subpopulation. Here, Horowitz et al. identified a population of tissue-resident, cytotoxic CD49a+CD103+ NK cells that were distinguishable from their more immunosuppressive counterparts by coexpression of CD39.
