Meet Joseph of Egypt + Jesus is Struck in The Chosen Season 6
In a recent livestream, Dallas Jenkins unveiled another scene from The Chosen Season 6 and also introduced cast members from the first The Chosen Universe live-action spin-off, Joseph of Egypt. Below I'll share a few observations from the new scene and the interviews with the cast of Joseph of Egypt, as well as some Black Friday season deals on gifts for fans of The Chosen and other Bible movies/shows.
House of David Season 2 Episode 7: Recap, Review, & Analysis
Episode 7 of House of David Season 2 delivers two long-awaited moments: the marriage between David and Mychal (1 Samuel 18:27) and Saul’s attempt to kill David (1 Samuel 19:9-10). Along the way, we also get a lot of palace intrigue, including the death of a named character. Below I'll offer an in-depth recap of the plot (SPOILER WARNING), my opinion of the episode, and an analysis of its key themes. You can also find a video discussion of House of David Season 2 Episode 7 here on YouTube.
House of David Season 2 Episode 3: Recap, Review, & Analysis
David once lamented how, “Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.” (Psalm 12:2, ESV). In Episode 3 of House of David Season 2 ("The Middle Path"), we start to see where his bleak view of humanity comes from.
House of David Season 2 Episode 1: Review, Recap, & Analysis
Updated: 3 days ago Episode 1 of House of David Season 2 ("A Tale of Two Swords") is a miracle. It’s been less than a year since Season 1 of Wonder Project’s new Bible show premiered and yet somehow Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn have produced what may be one of my favorite episodes of the show so far.
House of David Season 2 Trailer Insights & Analysis
A new trailer just dropped for House of David Season 2, which premieres on October 5 on the Wonder Project subscription service on Amazon Prime. Season 2 will pick up with the aftermath of David's defeat of Goliath and follow David's ascent to commander of the Israelite army, his friendship with Jonathan, and his doomed romance with Mychal, all of which fuel Saul's violent envy and paranoia, eventually forcing David to go on the run as an outlaw.
Review - The Totally Tubular Festival @ the Fox Theater (6/30/24)
Thomas Dolby @ the Fox Theater (Photo: Kevin Keating) The Fox Theater transformed into a neon-drenched time machine this past Sunday, as the Totally Tubular Festival crashed into Oakland like a tidal wave of '80s nostalgia. With a surprisingly early 5:30 pm kickoff, the festival crammed eight iconic acts into one glorious night of '80's (synth) pop ecstasy.
Are Images of Christ OK? Yes.
To understand whether the creation or use of a visual representation of Jesus violates the second commandment, we must ask whether the work: diverts glory away from God and toward a false object, distorts the story of God’s relationship with his people, or diminishes God’s nature and deforms those who use it. While icon veneration may divert glory away from God, narrative and exegetical depictions of Jesus perform a different function.
God’s Providence in Suffering: Making Sense of Suffering, Part 3
Don Carson: I suggested earlier that the most conceptually difficult of the six pillars was the fourth, with those two propositions concerning the mystery of providence. At the end of our last session I discussed one thing the Bible speaks about concerning this: suffering as a preparation for believers to help others.
‘Been So Long Praying’: 4 Reasons Why I Observe Juneteenth
In 1863, a man on a horse could travel the 253 miles from Washington, DC, to Hale’s Ford, Virginia, in two weeks. It took the Emancipation Proclamation two years to make that journey. Booker T. Washington distinctly remembered the moment in May 1865 when he heard the good news of his freedom. His mother, the enslaved cook on a Virginia plantation, was standing next to the 9-year-old Washington while a Union officer read Lincoln’s Proclamation, which had been issued on January 1, 1863.
‘Inside Out 2’ and the Need for Outside-In Wisdom
When Inside Out released in 2015, it represented the best of Pixar: gorgeous animation, brilliant original storytelling, and layers of meaning for kids and adults alike. It was the last truly groundbreaking movie in the “peak Pixar” era. Though there are a few exceptions, much of Pixar’s output since 2015 has been underwhelming at best or annoyingly agenda-driven at worst. Recent box-office flops like Elemental launched much discussion about how Pixar lost its way.
“Called to Cultivate” by Chelsea Patterson Sobolik
At 36 years old, as a mom of four, I accepted my first full-time job. I’ve had plenty of part-time jobs in different settings, including several positions where I worked from home. I was primarily a stay-at-home mom for 12 years, yet even during some of those years I worked a few hours a week for a paycheck. But when I took a job that consumed much of my time each week, I had to start asking new questions about what it means to work and to be a woman in the workplace.
Are Images of Christ OK? Yes.
But people today aren’t dumb. Many nonreaders can talk for hours about the history, characters, and metaphysics of fictional universes like the MCU. This is a form of literacy; it just isn’t grounded in books. It’s grounded in visual media. Advertise on TGC It’s not surprising, then, that visual adaptations of biblical stories like The Chosen have been so influential in recent years. Such works help nonreaders access biblical stories, characters, and ideas.
On the occasion of the death of "the leading left communist in the United States"
Their left communism and ours: in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, an individual sometimes described as “the leading left communist in the United States” initiated a series of meetings of some supposed ultra-left Marxists in Berkeley. I took part. My understanding was that we would act fast, come up with an analysis of the 9/11 events, and make our analysis public in a high-profile way.

Phenotypic and genomic evidence for transparent cellulose, metabolic diversity, and stable cellulose production in the Acetobacteraceae
Abstract The Acetobacteraceae are a family of microbes that use sugars from fruits, beverages and fermented foods to overproduce bacterial nanocellulose (BNC), a living material with broad applications in medicine and industry. Yet, the family has few complete, contiguous genome sequences available. Here, three different strains – a high production strain NQ5, a metabolic engineering host NCIB 8034, and a new isolate DS12 from kombucha were characterized and complete de novo genomes assembled.

San Francisco's leading neo-con Alice Cooper impersonator, the former Steve Schwartz!
This is a letter in response to some bizarre, shameful and prolix apple-polishing of the egregious one-time Steve Schwartz, now known as Lulu Schwartz, by Bruce Anderson, the owner and publisher of Mendocino County's 'Anderson Valley Advertiser.' To the Editor, Thanks so much for your exhaustive and exhausting account of every single trivial encounter you’ve had with the former Stephen Schwartz going back to when Lyndon Johnson was President. The Reality of Food: The Service Sector in San Francisco
25 February 2021 8 min read This is the text of a leaflet I distributed among co-workers and customers at The Real Food Company in San Francisco. Real Food consists of two high priced natural food markets in SF’s Russian Hill and Marina District neighbourhoods. I was employed as a cashier at the Polk Street store from March 2012 to March 2013.
Memories of Hank Aaron by a Professional Autograph Hound
My last photo with Hank Aaron, July 28, 2018. (Photo: Kevin Keating Collection) By Kevin Keating It felt like a gut-punch last Friday when I learned that Hank Aaron had died. Hank became the tenth member of the baseball Hall of Fame to pass since last April, following Al Kaline, Tom Seaver, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Whitey Ford, Joe Morgan, Phil Niekro, Tommy Lasorda, and Don Sutton. Like so many, I admired them all. I had met them all, too. Some were friends.

Giuliani Time (2005)
Excellent if not all that flattering documentary of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who on the eve of the Septemer 11, 2001 attacks was all but washed up as a force to reckon with in NY politics. It was then that overnight Rudy became the most recognized and talked about political figure not only in New York or the USA but in the world earning himself the title of Time Magazines Man, or Person, of the Year 2001.
Fairfield doesn't need a new fire station
By Kevin Keating, Fairfield I don’t think Fairfield needs a new fire station. Our current station’s location is ideally suited midtown, on a state higway, well plowed in winter and having easy underpass of long freight trains, to serve the northern area. Besides, why tear down a building to build another, when a relocation of the adjacent public health office would yield office and parking space for any necessary development? Let’s not spend voter/taxpayer money unnecessarily, OK?

A REVEALING HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL PASTIME
ALEXANDRIA, VA – If there was a Hall of Fame for baseball autograph collectors, Kevin Keating would surely be one of its most revered members. And in his book, Waiting for a Sign (WorldServe Press, 2018), Keating’s half-century of collecting autographs from the game’s greats is the backdrop for nearly two dozen provocative profiles of the game’s greats – including Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Stan Musial and Yogi Berra.

How to Build a Retirement Plan that Lasts
Planning for retirement requires more than just placing clients in sound investments. It includes taking into account outside factors like health care costs, inflation, inheritances and charitable giving. May 23, 2019 By Kevin Keating When it comes to retirement planning, many things have not changed. Year after year, the same challenge seems to keep clients up at night: they want to ensure they’ll have sufficient funds to weather the uncertainties of retirement.
New Book ‘Waiting for a Sign’ is a Home Run
Regardless of the era, there is one baseball thing which has changed very little –youngster and the young at heart fantasizing about their idols and chasing autographs. Inside and outside the ball park, the autograph hounds abound—rabid fans hanging out near the field railings or lingering around the player walkways that lead into the stadium. Their eyes wide open attentive and darting in search of their heroes. Arms stretched out and hands waving trying to catch the player’s attention.
Commending Broward College on a fair and open presidential search process | Opinion
As a member of the Broward College President Search Committee, I would like to share the comments I made to the Board of Trustees and audience at the end of the interviews with the final candidates for the position of president of Broward College on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. From the outset, both the Board and senior leadership made it clear that the process would be open and transparent.
Many Ex-California Cops Retire To Idaho
Los Angeles detective Mark Fuhrman wants what a hundred other ex-California cops already have found in Idaho. Clean air, quiet neighborhoods and an escape from big city crime and stress. Idaho’s Panhandle has been a getaway for tired Southern California cops and firemen for about 20 years. Some even have formed their own support group in Coeur d’Alene, said Karl Thompson, a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department captain and former California officer.
HS BASEBALL: Blue Mountain downs Marian
PINE GROVE — Blue Mountain’s approach at the plate has been light years ahead of last year, according to head coach Tom Kramer. While the Eagles typically drill the fundamentals of defense, this year’s club has spent additional time on hitting situations. The time in the cage and in the batter’s box has paid off, and in Monday’s Spotts Insurance Group Schuylkill League Baseball Semifinals, the bottom of the Eagles’ lineup delivered at the plate. Blue Mountain’s Nos.
HS GIRLS BB: Nativity holds off Linden Hall
NEW SCHAEFFERSTOWN — Mady Ulsh and Mallory Sanders are not ready for their journey to end. Nativity’s two seniors want to keep proving doubters of their surging team wrong. The Golden Girls’ underclassmen are more than willing to pitch in their fair share, too.
PIAA BOYS' BB: Schultz leads Lourdes past Nativity
Thomas Schultz had “a look” in his eyes. Once Lourdes coach James Sandri recognized that look, there was no way the 6-foot-4 sophomore was leaving the floor. Schultz ignited the Red Raiders offense and Larry Czeponis did his part wiping the glass as Lourdes defeated Nativity 60-46 in the first round of the PIAA Class A boys’ basketball state playoffs at Martz Hall on Friday.
D-11 BOYS' BB: Hilltoppers fall to Lincoln Leadership in Class A title game
ALLENTOWN — Price Szeliga returned this basketball season as the only Nativity player with extensive varsity experience. The Hilltoppers’ playoff run likely will continue serving to build momentum for a talented young roster. Lincoln Leadership Academy showed those youngsters just what a talented and experienced lineup can do playing 32 minutes at a high level.
HS GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Mahanoy Area runs past Moravian
Knowing his team faced a height disadvantage in the post, Mahanoy Area coach Tom Scheeler charged his Golden Bears with making Monday’s District 11 Class AA semifinal a full-court game. No problem for an active Mahanoy Area front court. The Golden Bears forced 28 turnovers and overcame a rough first half shooting the basketball to secure a second straight appearance in the district final and a ticket to the PIAA Tournament with a 60-30 romp over Moravian Academy at Martz Hall.

HSFB: Minersville upsets Marian

HSFB: Minersville upsets Marian
MINERSVILLE — Damian Buggy said he didn’t become comfortable until about 10 minutes after the game clock read 0:00. Even with the discomfort because of a late-charging Marian club that finally turned the ball over on downs with 28.7 seconds left, the first-year Minersville coach could tell in many ways that the program may have reached a turning point. “The big thing is you can’t look at it from a wins-loss standpoint,” Buggy said.
HSFB: Pottsville turns back Lehighton
LEHIGHTON — Pottsville controlled most of its 35-20 Schuylkill Football League Division I win over Lehighton on Friday night. And when the Crimson Tide faced adversity in the form of injuries to key players, others stepped up to fill the void. Many of those guys — Ian Murhon, Chase Alisauckas and Sam Siminitus — fought through bumps and bruises to return and play a prominent role as Pottsville (7-1, 3-0 D-I) took control of its own destiny in its pursuit of a division title.
Spartans shut out Lehighton
LEHIGHTON – Bobby Wagner loves to come off the edge to blitz. The North Schuylkill senior probably enjoys it the most when he reaches the opposing quarterback. Wagner’s pressure, including a pair of sacks as well as a key interception early in the second half, highlighted another stellar effort by the Spartans defense.
