No two deaths are alike. Some deaths that split your life cleanly into Before and After, and there are some deaths that come after such a long, exhausting journey that when they finally come they feel less like an ending than like a weary exhalation of release. I now have known both. It has taken three decades between both these deaths for me to realise that deaths are not equal, and nor is the kind of grief you feel for each.

And by extension, this assumption of being imperfect makes us believe we are unlikable, or worse, unlovable.
