Sunday was finally a dry day after a stretch of stormy weather across the state. Monday may see some storms across NW Minnesota, sliding south as we get into the evening timeframe. The Twin Cities should remain dry in this time. By Tuesday, the remnant storms and boundaries will spark off new storms, bringing the chance for severe weather to SW and Central Minnesota. These storms look to backbuild into the Dakotas and could continue into the nighttime.

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has placed a Forecast First Alert in the forecast for strong storms Wednesday night. Over the next several days, we are expecting several rounds of thunderstorms across the Upper Midwest. The high pressure over Kentucky and Tennessee is directing Gulf moisture across the Central Plains into the Upper Midwest, while an upper level low over Central Canada is providing a strong jet stream which combined will allow for deep thunderstorms to develop.

June 21 marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. We had just over 15 hours 36 minutes of daylight today, and begin losing light as we head towards Winter. By the Autumnal Equinox on September 22, we will have lost almost three and a half hours of daylight, and December 21 will only have 8 hours 46 minutes of light! We’ve seen a beautiful weekend and the great weather continues into Monday.
