United Way of Central Maryland still owes local nonprofits grant money it promised in the spring. That’s because the organization, which works to improve the lives of residents in the community through education, health and financial stability initiatives, is experiencing a financial deficit, according to the nonprofit’s president and CEO Franklyn Baker. Grantee and other outstanding payments, he said, will be made by the end of the month.

Baltimore County Public Schools is working down to the wire to get its new superintendent on the job by tomorrow. William “Bill” Heiseris slated to start his term July 1, as required by state law. The school board voted to approve his contract Monday evening, but as of Tuesday morning, it’s still waiting for at least one signature.
