QUINCY (WGEM) - Late Monday night, the National Weather Service upgraded our Heat Advisories for the central and southern tier of the Tri-States to Extreme Heat Warnings. These run through Friday evening at 10pm in Quincy and Hannibal. Elsewhere near Keokuk, Fort Madison, Macomb, Rushville, and Winchester, Extreme Heat Warnings run through Wednesday evening and Friday morning, respectively.

QUINCY (WGEM) - Our first true taste of summer is here as our heatwave begins its second day across the Tri-States. Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings are up for the entire region for much of the rest of this week. Scotland and Clark Counties (MO), Lee County (IA), and Hancock and McDonough Counties (IL) have an Extreme Heat Warning through 10pm Wednesday. Schuyler and Scott Counties (IL) have a Heat Advisory in effect from 11am Monday through 12am Friday.

WEST SALEM, IL. (WGEM) - Overnight, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck nearly 4 miles northeast of West Salem, Illinois at 2am Monday, June 29. Other areas near the epicenter of the earthquake include Albion and Olney, Illinois. No damage, injuries, or deaths were reported following the earthquake. The shallow earthquake struck at a depth of nearly 12 miles below Earth’s surface within the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
