WEST SALEM, IL. (WGEM) - Overnight, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck nearly 4 miles northeast of West Salem, Illinois at 2am Monday, June 29. Other areas near the epicenter of the earthquake include Albion and Olney, Illinois. No damage, injuries, or deaths were reported following the earthquake. The shallow earthquake struck at a depth of nearly 12 miles below Earth’s surface within the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
