WGEM-TV is the NBC-affiliated television station for the Tri-States area of Western Illinois, Northeastern Missouri, and extreme Southeastern Iowa that is licensed to Quincy, Illinois. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on VHF channel 10 from a transmitter east of the city on Cannonball Road near I-172. The station is the flagship of Quincy Newspapers, and is a sister operation to the company's namesake, The Quincy Herald-Whig, and WGEM-AM-FM. Its studios are located in the New Tremont Apartments (formerly the Hotel Quincy) on Hampshire Street in Downtown Quincy. Source

QUINCY (WGEM) - We’ll continue to see a few scattered showers and storms track through the Tri-States into the overnight hours. A couple damaging wind gusts will be possible with some of these thunderstorms. Most of us wont see too much additional rainfall, between 0.25″ and 0.50″. But, some localized pockets of heavier rainfall may add up to over another inch in very isolated locations. Lows will remain warm, in the low-mid 70s. Then, we will rise into the mid-upper 80s to end off the weekend.

CHICAGO (AP) — Joshua Báez became the first player to hit three home runs in his first three at-bats in the major leagues, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. The 23-year-old left fielder, called up from Triple-A Memphis earlier in the day, hit the first pitch he saw into the Wrigley Field bleachers, then homered in his next two at-bats. He also drove in five runs.
Teen dies after falling inside derelict high-rise, police say
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - A 17-year-old boy died early after falling from an open stairwell inside the derelict Plaza Tower in downtown New Orleans, police said. New Orleans Police Department Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick said a group of teens -- the exact number unknown -- broke into the vacant high-rise shortly before midnight Friday, Aug. 14, for what she termed “a little urban exploring” that ended with tragic consequences. The identity of the teen was not immediately disclosed.
Trailblazing teacher who taught during segregation in Topeka celebrates 100th birthday
LARGO, Md. (Gray DC) - Barbara Ross turned 100 years old, and a ballroom full of guests traveled to Largo, Md. Saturday to mark the occasion for the trailblazing educator who taught during and after the era of school segregation. Ross was born in 1926 in Topeka, Kan. She is recognized as the city’s oldest living Black educator. Joe Anderson was in Ross’s second-grade class.
Hospital patient shot and killed by husband in apparent murder-suicide
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM/Gray News) - Authorities in Mississippi are investigating a shooting at Forrest General Hospital. An apparent murder-suicide was said to have occurred at the hospital on Friday. Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem reported the victims were a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man. Those close to the situation said the 67-year-old female patient was shot by her husband, who then shot himself.

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the woman was trail running alone on the Wolverine Bowl trail Thursday when she encountered the bear near the Prospect Heights trailhead. Oma’s Pride announced one lot of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe in 6-pound bags is being recalled. The affected lot, BB012729, was distributed in Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. About 639 bags were affected.
Teen dies after falling from top of moving vehicle, police say
TRENTON, Ohio (WXIX/Gray News) - A 16-year-old boy is dead after falling from the top of a moving vehicle in Ohio. It happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday in Trenton, about 40 minutes southwest of Dayton. Trenton police and fire crews responded to reports that a teenager fell while “riding on top of a vehicle,” police wrote in a news release Saturday. CareFlight medical helicopter flew the teen to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he died.
