Für das neue Abenteuer in Mittelerde hatte Warner Bros. bereits mehrere Darsteller angekündigt. Neben bekannten Gesichtern aus den bisherigen Filmen gehören auch zahlreiche neue Namen zum Cast. Fans dürfen sich auf ein Wiedersehen mit einigen der bekanntesten Figuren der Filmreihe freuen. Ian McKellen wird erneut als Gandalf vor der Kamera stehen, Elijah Wood kehrt in die Rolle des Frodo zurück. Auch Lee Pace ist wieder mit dabei und übernimmt erneut die Rolle des Elbenkönigs Thranduil.
