That quote from Emerson has been on my mind lately. For most of my life, I've been someone who stuck to the plan: routes mapped out, schedules set, calendars filled with what was supposed to come next. It comes from my military background and its structure. Lately, though, the moments that have meant the most haven't been the ones I planned; they've come from the detours. When I picked up my bike in Tampa for instance, the plan was straightforward: get on, head home, nothing extra in the schedule.

What are your thoughts when you think of Puerto Rico? My first thoughts run to the culture, the music, the food, and my personal favorite — the beaches. Right now I’m staying in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and Playa Azul lives up to its name; the water is a deep, almost endless blue, stretching until it blends with the horizon. It pulls you in before you’ve even unpacked. The air follows, thick with salt that settles on your skin and makes lotion an afterthought.
