Abstract Physiological tooth movement during the process of orofacial rehabilitation, as well as the degree of skeletal responses to orthodontics procedures, depends on the bone remodeling processes that are controlled by the mechanosensitive receptors. Piezo1 has become one of the receptors of great attention over the last few years.

Introduction Schizophrenia, a chronic and progressive mental disorder, is characterised by cognitive impairment and loss of social function, contributing substantially to mental disability. This condition imposes a heavy burden on patients, their families and society. The China Mental Health Survey (2019)1 reported approximately 8 million cases of schizophrenia in China, with a weighted lifetime prevalence of this and other psychotic disorders at 0.7%.
