Joe Sakic is not sitting around and thinking about running it back for next season. The Colorado Avalanche president and general manager made a big move on Thursday, sending Valeri Nichushkin to the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for three draft picks. The Avs get a second-round selection in 2026, a third-round choice in 2027 and a fifth-rounder in 2028. Nichushkin helped the Avs win the Stanley Cup in 2022, but his production last season didn’t match his annual salary of $6.124 million.

Denver Nuggets select Trevon Brazile, Bryce Hopkins in round 2 of the NBA draft

The Denver Nuggets drafted two players in the second round of the NBA draft on Wednesday night. They took forward Trevon Brazile from Arkansas with the 35th pick, acquired in a trade with the Spurs. The Nuggets also selected forward Bryce Hopkins with the 49th overall pick. Brazile is 6-foot-10 and weighs 226 pounds. He played four seasons at the University of Arkansas, appearing in 105 games with 71 starts.

Nuggets make a pick and a trade in the 1st round of the NBA draft

The Denver Nuggets picked center Tarris Reed, a junior from UConn, at No. 26 in the first round of the NBA draft. But Reed will not play for the Nuggets. They traded him to the San Antonio Spurs. In return, the Nuggets got the Spurs' second-round pick at number 35. And two future second rounders as well. Trades can't be made official until next week. So, Reed is a Nugget for now but is going to San Antonio.
