Golf2Remember returns to support dementia programs in York Region

Just in time for the Alzheimer Society of York Region’s 40th anniversary, Golf2Remember is returning, this time taking place at King’s Riding Golf Course in King City on Tuesday, Sept. 22 during World Alzheimer’s Month. The golf tournament was created in 2011 by Tara Morse, Jane Simard and Betsy Sumner, three friends and golfing buddies who met over dinner one day to discuss how they could support Simard, whose sister lived with dementia.

Wearing a forget-me-not pin lets residents with dementia know they are not alone

On Jan. 28, Dave LeGallais and members of the Men’s Shed in Aurora will be wearing their forget-me-not pins to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, support people impacted by it, and help change the stigma that surrounds a diagnosis. “It’s so important” to talk about dementia, said LeGallais, who, along with Aurora’s Glen Sharp, have been a part of Men’s Shed, based out of the Aurora Seniors Centre, for two-and-a-half years.
