1 INTRODUCTION Aside from water vapor, the most abundant greenhouse gas (GHG) is carbon dioxide (CO2), which is most commonly emitted through the burning of fossil fuels for energy generation, transportation, and more (EPA, 2022), but is also produced and emitted in substantial quantities as a result of soil microbial and plant root respiration (Bhattacharyya et al., 2022; Wiesmeier et al., 2019).
