A milestone event in July will see New South Wales join the rest of the country in legally allowing trans and gender-diverse adults to update the gender marker on their birth certificates without requiring surgical intervention. This change, a result of the Equality Bill that passed the lower house in NSW last year, acknowledges that trans people of all genders deserve the dignity of recognition, even if they may not be able to access, afford or even desire gender-affirming surgery.
