(WHNT) — A former Hanceville police officer and former police chief are set to enter plea agreements in a case that stemmed from an investigation into a dispatcher’s overdose death at the department. An investigation into a dispatcher’s death in 2025 led to several criminal charges being filed against former Hanceville police officers, including Jason Wilbanks and Chief Jason Marlin. It also led to the city council voting to abolish the police department a year later.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — ALEA said a woman was killed over the weekend in a crash on Interstate 565 involving an on-duty state trooper. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Hailie D. Hune, 21, of Tennessee, was attempting to elude a state trooper on Saturday night when her car left the roadway, overturned and hit a concrete barrier near Mile Marker 14, or the Research Park exit. ALEA said her car was then hit by the trooper’s vehicle.

Bond denied for man charged with murder in February shooting in Arab

ARAB, Ala. (WHNT) — A Marshall County judge denied bond Monday for a man charged in a deadly February shooting, and he will remain in jail while he awaits trial. Robert Gene Malin, 47, of Arab, was charged with murder for the shooting death of Marvin E. Christian, 76, on February 17. District Judge Mitchell Floyd said Malin has a history of not appearing in court and “no condition or combination of conditions of release will reasonably ensure” his appearance in court.
