Journalist • Communications Consultant • Storyteller
I’m a Northern California-based writer, journalist, and communications consultant with a passion for storytelling that spans two decades. My work explores the dynamic relationship between people and place—especially in rural and remote corners of The West.
As a journalist, I focus on stories that matter: water, wildfire, land use, climate change, conservation and how these issues intersect with the human spirit. Whether I’m interviewing a fifth-generation rancher, a tribal leader, or a public official, I aim to shed light on underrepresented voices and nuanced issues.
Through my consultancy, Laura Petersen Media, I help mission-driven organizations craft clear, compelling narratives that inspire trust and drive action. From strategic messaging and outreach campaigns to success stories and social media, I bring authenticity and insight to every project.
When I’m not behind the keyboard or camera, you’ll find me hiking a ridgeline, camping next to a high Sierra lake or sipping coffee with someone whose story deserves to be told.
Let’s connect. I’m always open to meaningful collaborations, especially those rooted in community, environment and equity.
