An annual religious march will see several city centre roads closed throughout the day on Sunday, July 5. The Ashura March, organised by the Islamic Society for Wales which is based on Stow Hill, will be taking place on July 5, will mean temporary closures along the route, with diversions signposted.

Man recalled to prison after police stop uncovers supply of Class-A drugs

A 33-year-old man from Newport has been charged and recalled to prison following a police stop and search on Monday, June 29. Officers, who were on patrol, stopped and searched a car on Lliswerry Road before making the arresting Ryan Smith, of Mulcaster Avenue, Newport. He appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, June 30 and he was charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

Gwent Police appeal to find GBH offender who has been recalled to prison

Police are appealing for information to help locate a 49-year-old man who has been recalled to prison. Sandy Elsbury, from Abertillery, who was serving a sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm has breached his licence conditions after being released from prison. Elsbury has now been recalled to prison and Gwent Police are appealing for information to help locate him. He is also has known connections to the Caerphilly area.
