The itinerary appeared on Delta's website, carried a Delta flight number, and was sold to me by Delta. As far as I was concerned, I was buying a Delta ticket and receiving the benefits that come with being a Delta Skymiles credit card holder. Then came the surprise. When it was time to check in, I discovered that one leg of the trip was operated by LATAM.
