Surviving the Storm: Lake Texoma and Red River flooding Original
COOKE COUNTY, Texas (KTEN) - There’s a level of callousness that survival demands. Seasons change. Storms hit. Cattle die. Crops get burnt up or washed out. Out here, time is money. Farmers and ranchers are on Mother Nature’s dime. To you and me, the sounds of a slow spring rain rarely bring dread and despair, but to those whose livelihoods are driven by the fury and force of Mother Nature, the slow drip of rain over time and the rising of the river results in money going down the drain.

Surviving the Storm: How to shelter in place
(KTEN) — We know that seeking shelter is the right thing to do during severe weather, but it's what you do before, during, and after the storm hits that can be the difference between life… or death. "My husband said, 'It's here! Get down!'" recalled Buncombe Creek tornado survivor Carol Kennedy. "Robert looked back and he could see it." The Kennedys took shelter in March 2022 as an EF-2 tornado hit their home. Although they were injured, their choice to seek shelter saved both of their lives.

Surviving the Storm: A night to remember
In Part 3 of our Surviving the Storm series, we examine a Marshall County tornado warning that quickly resulted in a night in Madill that will be remembered for years to come. "It has that look… this supercell has a look that it's going to produce a tornado real soon," said KTEN storm chaser Jason Cooley. It's what we're a little too familiar with down here in the springtime: A warm, moist day turning quickly to destruction. We go back to April 22, 2020.
Surviving the Storm: Part 2
In Part 2 of our Surviving the Storm series, we bring you a behind-the-scenes look at how a KTEN storm chaser played a critical role in providing critical warnings about the Bryan County tornado on April 30, 2019. "I began to head home to Durant, Oklahoma, and just kind of call it a day." But had KTEN storm chaser Alex Spahn called it a day sooner, there's no telling how many more lives would've been lost on that April day. "People's lives were turned upside-down.
