ACCC demands legal reform citing harm to retailers on social media
The report, which is the ACCC’s sixth in its ‘digital platform services inquiry’ details issues of excessive data collection, the prevalence of scams and fraud, inadequate disclosure of sponsored content, and a lack of competition. Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb emphasised the harm inflicted on small-to-medium businesses, as well as consumers. “Social media services are an essential part of our daily lives and have provided many benefits to society,” she said.

I hated customer research until I found Voice of Customer
By Marci Cornett, {grow} Community Member I’m a marketer who hated customer research … until I got emotional about it Maybe you’ve known all along how incredible customer research is for growing your business. But I was afraid of it. I thought it was all about processing numbers and percentages. And embracing soul-crushing words like “demographics” and “statistics.” You see, I’m a word nerd. My head was designed for literary analysis.

TikTok is a video social media app that took off in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown. While many people thought it would only be around for a short time others took full advantage of using TikTok as a marketing technique. How can you be successful on TikTok? After creating a TikTok account, discuss how often you will post.
Marketing and Millennials in 2021
March 31, 2021March 16, 2021 by Taylor Schrull Marketing for millennials is a different approach compared to other generations. Millennials were born between the years of 1981 and 1996. Unlike Generation Z, they are not considered digital natives. Who are the Millennials Despite not being digital natives, Millennials are considered to be a technology savvy generation and very connected.
Five Ways to Catch a Consumer's Attention on Social Media
March 10, 2021March 2, 2021 by Mackenzie Marsh Social media has moved from an up and coming marketing strategy to something that is here now. Even though we are living in the digital age maybe you still don’t feel like you have a grasp on social media. Social media is more than just sharing about your business specials or sales into a void but it can result in real human interaction, if used the right way.
Find yourself: reviewing your online presence
I was chatting with a friend recently about the ‘good old days’, back before the Internet was a part of our lives. We didn’t have data in our pockets and if we needed directions, we’d use a map. Our spare time was spent reading or watching television rather than looking at videos or surfing through Facebook.
Does Google know you're in business?
Are you looking for digital marketing success? Google My Business (GMB) is a tool that can help prospective customers find you online and in person. One of the best things about GMB is that it is free to set up and maintain, and helps you manage your online presence while allowing you to seek greater exposure in your local area. Read on to find out how it works, and why it can help you grow your business.
5 Out of the Box Marketing Ideas
Constantly brainstorming new ideas is probably one of the toughest parts of running any sort of social media or marketing campaign. You don’t want to feel like your social feeds are just recycling the same kinds of posts all the time — your followers are hungry for new content and marketers are expected to deliver new ideas on a regular basis. Successful marketing needs to stay fresh to be effective. Stale marketing allows returning and potential new customers to become bored.
Making Marketing More Personalized
As this world is only getting more and more high-tech, we need to make sure that we don’t lose the importance of human interaction and personalization — and that doesn’t just mean adding your customer’s name in your emails. What is personalized marketing? According to Constant Contact, personalization is a strategy that involves collecting data related to your customers and crafting marketing experiences that target specific types of customers through your content.
How Companies are Using TikTok to Market their Business
June 3, 2020June 3, 2020 by Alannah Riner TikTok has quickly become a major social media platform for 2020. And no, it has nothing to do with Kei$a’s song from a few years ago. This video-based social app has been pretty popular for about a year and is most commonly used by young adults (ages 12-25). The app is used to create and post creative and trendy videos which are intended to appear on the “for you page,” which is where popular videos appear for people to view, like, and comment.
9 Top Publications Share Where to Focus Your Pitching During the Pandemic
It goes against our better instincts; pitching new products or unpublished projects to editors while sheltering in place. But after a month of Covid 19 lockdown and another on the horizon, we thought it time to check in with publications and to ask editors (both online and print) and podcasters how designers and small businesses can be a helpful resource, support their work and build respectful relationships during this difficult time. After all, we’re in this together. Here’s what they had to say.
12 Ideas to Add to Your Marketing Strategy in 2020
We are almost through the first part 2020 – how is your marketing strategy going? Already in 2020 we’ve faced a lot, but hopefully you’ve kept your marketing strong. Every quarter you should re-evaluate your marketing strategy (or plan) and reflect on what worked, what’s working, and what can be improved upon. Marketing is ever-changing, and as the world changes, so must your gameplan. Here are some ideas to incorporate in your marketing this year – and in future years.
Marketing Your Business During COVID-19 and Other Critical Times
The past couple weeks have seen most of the country shut itself down in regards to COVID-19. Many are working from home, while many are not working at all. Whether either of those apply to you, now is not the time to stop your business’ marketing. If you stop now, will people remember you when the world returns to normal? Yes, that may sound harsh, but there is another business waiting to take your spot.
Is TB Joshua not another religious fraudster?
Rejected for Christ. I live in the UK and have been following TB Joshua’s ministry for several years now. I cannot help noticing that many out there seem to mock SCOAN, and rebuke his ministry. Am I surprised? No, not at all, as they did exactly the same to Jesus in His time. People accused Jesus of being both demonic (Matthew 12:22-32) and a fraudster (Luke 23:11). It’s seems to be the way of the world.
Stop with the Fluff Social Content
I am going to make this post short and sweet because I’m tired of seeing businesses let marketing companies do this…. STOP. POSTING. FLUFF. ON. YOUR. SOCIAL. ACCOUNTS. What is this ‘fluff’ I am talking about? Posts that talk about springing forward or falling back (U.S. time change). Happy Spring! Happy First Day of Summer! Happy Fall! Happy Winter! Happy random-post-because-we-don’t-know-what-we-are-doing! Get the picture?
36 Marketing Stats to Help Your Marketing Strategy in 2019
Stats and analytics are the backbone of any good marketing campaign. If you are not using these to plan and review your campaigns, now is the best time to start! Even if your marketing strategy is done, it does not hurt to always look at it and change things as the year progresses based on the results you see from your current campaigns. While reading through stats from the past year, these are the ones that stood out as being some of the most interesting.
Why Hiring a Marketing Specialist is Better than a Marketing Agency
I love the phrase that appearances are not always what they appear to be. That is so true in the marketing world. In this world, it’s our job to sell and promote – and some use smoke and mirrors to make it work. There’s an emerging trend in the marketing world – specialists over the traditional agency. Agencies – marketing and advertising – are seeing a nationwide decline in favor of marketing being moved in-house or outsourced to specialists who work with strategic partners.
Instagram Stories vs Snapchat - Which is better?
Just figured out how to effectively use Instagram Stories for your business? Oh wait no, you probably just figured out Snapchat. That’s right, Snapchat is slowly on the verge of becoming sooo 2016… Instagram v. Snapchat So what is the big difference? Both platforms offer essentially the same product. While there are different filters, tools, and features, Instagram Stories is simply attached to what Instagram already presents its users.
12 Marketing Ideas to Try Out in 2019
By now I’m sure you’ve read numerous posts about your marketing strategy for this year. Although it’s beneficial and important to lay all of this before the end of the previous year, that doesn’t work for everyone. If you are still working on your marketing plan for this year – or you are just open to new ideas – this is a post for you. I love to see what other businesses are doing – that is one of the greatest resources we have, watching each other. We can see what worked and what didn’t.
Twitter as a News Source
With Gen Z-ers on the rise, strategies and tactics everywhere are adapting to how the generations work. One peculiar thing that sticks out to me, but I think is often overlooked about this generation, is the look to Twitter for news. We know that traditional news sources have been on the decline for a while now: just look at traditional newspapers versus the internet and television.
IHOB - Marketing Stunt or Marketing Genius?
In the past month, the media has been in a frenzy over something so simple… IHOP (International House of Pancakes) is changing their name to IHOb (International House of Burgers… Burgers?) Before they revealed the inspiration behind their new name the company offered up a guessing game to see if people would guess what the new letter stood for.
The Struggles with Being "You" in Your Business
A while back I wrote about how to be more “you” in your business. Now that you’ve found a way, I imagine you might be finding an element of struggle with it. Being yourself in your business is not an easy task. There are roadblocks you are going to come up on and unpleasant discussions will creep up fast. Despite any bad there may be in being yourself, nothing can trump the feeling that comes with knowing who you are, knowing you are being genuine, honest and authentic in your business.
Why You Need to be Vigilant About Social Media and Your Kids
What would you do if you knew your teenage son or daughter was sending nude photos of themselves to teens of the opposite sex? What if those photos were posted to Snapchat or Instagram? If you’re like me, you would be absolutely furious and enraged. But this is happening each and every day in small towns, large cities, public schools, private schools, and yes, even Christian schools.
Is Now the Time to Rethink Facebook?
I probably shouldn’t confess this in public, much less put it in writing, but I hate Facebook. If I didn’t have my business, I wouldn’t be on it. Why, when I built a business around it, you ask? Despite the fact everyone is on it and businesses can benefit from that, Facebook is a place full of fake news, people portraying lives they do not live, ridiculous fluff posts, oversharing that goes beyond the boundaries of TMI (too much information)… I could go on.

Businesses must get more creative to reach people with relevant messaging. Here are eight tactics to consider adding to your marketing approach: 1. Install a chatbot to help with your Facebook page.
Adapt Your Social Media Marketing or Fail
The way you post, what you post, who you target – the who, what, when, wheres – it’s all changing. If you’re not adapting how you use social media to market your business, you’re going to fail. And fail bad. In the past year, here’s what we’ve seen: And that’s just the tip of the iceberg folks. In the beginning – way back in the early 2000’s – you could just post whatever you wanted on social media and people would see.

7 Social Media Marketing Questions I Get Asked the Most, Answered
I get bombarded with questions about social media all the time. In Walmart. The school pick-up line. Church. Social media is what I’m known for. Last month, a good friend of mine in the business did a round-up of the top social media questions she gets asked and posted them on her blog, so in the spirit of share, and share alike, I thought I would do the same. The timing is quite fitting.
Why You Need a Website That Delights Your Audience
January 16, 2018January 4, 2018 by Jennifer Hanford Without a doubt, your most powerful marketing tool, hands down, is your business website. And, as you are probably well aware, some websites are designed better than others. Have you ever visited a website and been disappointed? Or worse, tried to visit a website that failed to load within a few seconds? Of course you have. We all have. And, more likely than not, you have probably moved on. Their loss…or maybe it’s your loss.
9 Ideas You Haven’t Thought of for Your 2018 Marketing Strategy
It’s a new year and by now you should have completed your 2018 marketing strategy. If you’re ducking down in your chair because you haven’t, it’s okay, it’s not too late. If you have, great! The marketing world is ever-evolving. Ten years ago, social was not a major component of the marketing plan and Facebook ads were not even an option. As the world changes, so does how we reach our customers. We are more mobile, more wired, in the technology-sense.
The Problem with Oversharing on Social Media
We all know ‘those’ people. They may be in our family. They may be in our circle of friends. They may even be some of your employees. I’m talking about the ones who overshare on social media. You know, give you the minute-by-minute detail of their lives and those who post endless selfies. Social media is a place to engage with each other and have fun – share memories, share good times and bad, share experiences. NOT share everything short of when you use the restroom.
5 companies that act human on social media | Articles | Main
"Being human" is an important theme for businesses right now. But how do you achieve it across an organization? Mark Schaefer stated in a recent article that we need to strive to be more human because, "Ultimately people will buy from who they know, who they trust." Customers want to relate to brands, and be accepted and noticed by them. Many businesses are catching on, like The Bank of Ireland "signing" its tweets and some restaurants accepting tweet-ahead seating.
5 Ingredients For A Successful Holiday Social Advertising Campaign
Whether or not we want to believe it, the holiday season is upon us. We see turkeys and pumpkin pie everywhere we go. The pre-Black Friday sales are going on. Christmas music is starting to filter through our radio stations. Is your business ready? The holiday season is one time of year that it seems advertising dollars are unlimited based on the traditional ads we see. Social advertising, however, has been slow to warm up to those levels.
When Competitiveness Threatens to Steal Your Joy
It’s not what you think. You know how some people have OCD where things have to be a certain way, or just clean? I have an obsessive competitiveness problem. Let’s call it OCP. I like to win. No, that’s not right. I have to win. I like to be the first car in the line of traffic. I want my kids to get the most awards (I’m working on this as my kids get older). My team has to win. I have to be the fastest. The first in line. Have the best service. The best product…. you see where I am going.

Fortunately, there are many of us who are here to help you with that so you can do what you do best – run your business. Does Your Business Have an Exit Strategy?
Why would I ever need an exit strategy? You may be asking yourself that after seeing the title of this post. In the past six weeks I have been asked that by three separate potential clients while we were meeting. Of course they prefaced it with, “we don’t expect it, but just in case.” They all had a great point. You never know what is going to happen. People move. People die. Not all businesses live forever.

Don’t lie – there have been times we have all wanted to respond to a post that way. I’m going to be brutally honest – some businesses still just do not get it when it comes to what type of content to post to Facebook.

20 Facebook Statistics for 2017 - ME Marketing Services - Social Media
If you’ve read my blog long enough, you know I love statistics, especially statistic posts. And with Facebook reaching 2 BILLION monthly users last month (June 2017), I thought it appropriate we take a look at some of the statistics that make up the world’s largest social media platform. • Almost one-quarter of the earth’s population (22.9%) uses Facebook. ( • Facebook’s mobile app is the most popular app in the United States, followed by their Messenger app and Instagram, which they own as well.

Ask Mandy Q&A: How to Find Success Using Social Media In the somewhat modified words of Forrest Gump… Using social media for your business is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get. Contrary to what some may say, social media success does not happen overnight. Yes, something may go viral, but that doesn’t mean you are going to be successful for more than 15 minutes. Having success using social media for your business is hard.
Your Business Needs a Social Media Marketing Strategy Right Now
Your Business Needs a Social Media Marketing Strategy Right Now Last year I made the case for social media marketing for small businesses in terms of why they need to even use it. According to the 2017 Social Media Marketing Industry Report from Social Media Examiner, 92% of marketers said that social media is important to their businesses (that included business owners as well). So obviously businesses are getting the message.
5 mistakes that will doom your article pitch | Articles | Main
As the owner of a website that publishes blog posts and articles, I get emails just about daily from people wanting to publish on my site. It got so bad I set up a separate email address for it. There’s nothing wrong with pitching an idea or an already-written article to someone for publication on their site. I’ve done it; I’m sure you have, too. However, there are things that will get your email an automatic “no.” Seriously, I wonder if some of these people ever took a class on correspondence.

Of course some blogs have all the bells and whistles they install while some are very plain and simple. You need to go with what fits your business’ personality and branding.
