Seward pilot rescues pair of harbor seals near Cordova

Two harbor seal pups found abandoned in the Cordova area are being treated at the Alaska Sealife Center (ASLC) after a Seward pilot volunteered to make two nearly 300-mile rescue journeys. ASLC officials said pilot Duke Marolf and his wife Pamela Eiting transported both pups, who were found separately, to the center in Seward last month. The first pup was found in the water outside of Cordova with injuries suggesting she had become entangled in a gillnet.

Proposed water regulations changes could profoundly impact salmon streams

State officials say the proposed changes would make Alaska’s water reservation process more efficient, consistent and cost-effective, while supporting development that aligns with the public interest. A document issued by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on May 29 states that if approved that state and federal resource management agencies would then become holders of certificates of reservations of water that the agencies apply for.
