Caner sues Truett-McConnell for wrongful firing

The former president of Truett-McConnell University has filed suit against the North Georgia school for breach of contract in his firing last year. Emir Caner filed suit June 5 in the State Superior Court of White County, Ga. He seeks compensation for lost wages, lost speaking engagement income, attorney fees and interest accrued on all the above. Trustees removed Caner from office on Sept. 25 last year after completing an investigation into his handling of sexual abuse claims on campus.

Al Mohler cozies up to Doug Wilson

Social media was abuzz this week with reaction to Southern Baptist Convention leader Al Mohler appearing on a podcast with Christian nationalist Doug Wilson. The mere fact of them being in conversation is the most notable thing, because what they said did not break any new ground but instead amplified their existing views. On X, one critic of Mohler said she didn’t think Mohler could sink any lower, and then he dug a basement.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says James Talarico will “go to hell” for his beliefs about the Bible. Talarico is an ordained Presbyterian minister and seminarian who is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas. He will face erstwhile Southern Baptist Ken Paxton in the November election. Religion has become a prominent theme in the election, as Talarico has made frequent comments about how his progressive Christian faith informs his political views.
