The City Hall Avenue exit off of I-264 west is still closed Wednesday morning, after a car became partially submerged in a sinkhole during Tuesday's heavy rain. Drivers heading into Downtown Norfolk should use Exit 9 for Waterside Drive or exit the interstate early to avoid the closure. Commuters who stay on the interstate until the closure will have to cross the Berkley Bridge into Portsmouth. There's no estimated time for the road to reopen.

Road closures now in place as Sail250, Juneteenth weekend preps are underway

Drivers in downtown Norfolk should expect significant traffic changes, parking restrictions and transportation adjustments as Norfolk prepares to host Sail250 Virginia, the 50th Annual Harborfest and Juneteenth celebrations along the waterfront. Most road closures took effect at 10 a.m. Thursday and will remain in place through 11 p.m. Monday. The largest traffic impacts are centered around Waterside Drive.
