MURRAY — The Rotary Club of Murray celebrated a year of service and leadership Thursday during its annual Passing of the Gavel Luncheon, recognizing outstanding members, honoring community service and welcoming new club leadership. Outgoing President Stuart Alexander, who was named the District Rotarian of the Year, officially passed the gavel to incoming President Terry Strieter, who will lead the club during the coming Rotary year.

Myra Lockhart was named the Rotarian of the Year for the Rotary Club of Murray. Lockhart serves as treasurer of the club and has been a member since 2021. Lockhart received the award from past president Stuart Alexander who stated Lockhart brings dedication, professionalism and exceptional stewardship to her role as treasurer.

Standing inside the cavernous former Thurman Furniture Building on East Main Street, it takes only a moment to understand why Murray Main Street Executive Director Deana Wright has become one of its strongest advocates. The 32,000-square-foot structure, which occupies nearly three-quarters of a city block, has sat largely unused for years.
