A local nonprofit is constructing a new neighborhood with 112 units of affordable housing in Olympia. The project, located at 3900 Blvd. Road SE, is being led by South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity. The Thurston County Board of Commissioners approved a $2 million award for the project at their Tuesday meeting in Olympia. However, the cost of the entire project is far higher. County documents indicate the $2 million will support an initial phase of construction that’s expected to yield 38 units.

Lacey man dislocated shoulder on purpose to escape jail, court records allege

A 32-year-old Lacey man attempted to escape from Thurston County corrections deputies during a trip to a hospital Tuesday, law enforcement allege. The man attended his preliminary hearing in Thurston County Superior Court Wednesday. Deputies booked him into the county jail Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree escape. Judge Christopher Lanese found probable cause for the alleged crime and set bail at $10,000. The court previously set bail at $5,000 in a 2025 case.
