Dean Brandt developed a real itch for tabletop games over a decade ago, thanks to his niece. “I immediately fell in love, went out, started buying games,” Brandt tells Pittsburgh City Paper. During a stint as a police officer, Angie Fry learned that she particularly enjoyed investigations. Fry is also an animal lover. When she learned about humane society police officers, who are hired by nonprofits to pursue animal abuse accusations, she decided to pivot. From 2019 to 2020, she worked as a humane officer for Animal Friends, then at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh from 2020 to 2024. For about three years of her humane officer career, no one else in Allegheny County shared her job.
