Being a critic is the only job I've ever seriously considered - much to the annoyance of my family as a teenager. I love media, and I love writing about media: one of my favourite feelings in the world is being bowled over by a film, a TV show, or an album, and then being able to get all my feelings down on the page for people to read.

Demons, ghosts, zombies, masked killers – none of these are strictly necessary to consider a film horrific.
