Massive search and rescue efforts are underway in Venezuela, where emergency crews are racing to find survivors trapped beneath the rubble more than a day after devastating earthquakes killed more than 900 people and injured more than 3,000 others. The tragedy is also being felt here in the D.C. area, where many Venezuelans are anxiously waiting for word from loved ones back home and, in some cases, are mourning the loss of family members.

The Democratic primary results are still coming in, with 65% of votes in as of just before 11 p.m. Current County Executive Marc Elrich, a Democrat, is term-limited, leaving the seat wide open.

Moped rider hit, killed by driver during Northwest DC police chase

A driver being chased by authorities hit and killed a moped rider in Northwest D.C. Saturday, according to police. It happened on the William Howard Taft Bridge on Connecticut Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. The bridge was closed off by law enforcement as of around 6 p.m. Saturday, and a News4 crew saw U.S. Park Police vehicles, Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Administration and D.C. police officers on scene. Multiple witnesses told News4 that Park Police were chasing a driver on the bridge.
