Integrating clinically actionable biomarkers into bladder cancer care — recommendations from the International Bladder Cancer Group
Abstract Crucial unmet needs for standardization and clinical integration of actionable biomarkers persist across the bladder cancer disease spectrum. To address these gaps, the International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG) convened a global multidisciplinary panel to develop evidence-based consensus recommendations on biomarker use in bladder cancer. Recommendations were formulated across the disease spectrum using a modified Delphi process.
Optimizing ChatGPT: Applying prompt engineering to frequently asked questions in urologic oncology
Abstract INTRODUCTION: Patients rely on online searches for patient education materials (PEMs). PEMs are recommended to be written at or below a sixth-grade reading level but are regularly written at a college reading level. Using prompt engineering, we assess the information, misinformation, and readability of ChatGPT responses to urologic oncology questions. METHODS: Forty-five questions relating to prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer were presented to ChatGPT (version 4o, OpenAI).

Contemporary Techniques in Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor, An Educational Course - Max Kates
Sam Chang is joined by Max Kates to discuss the upcoming course offered at the American Urological Association (AUA) 2023 annual meeting titled, “Contemporary Techniques in Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor.” The course aims to teach techniques to maximize outcomes for patients with bladder cancer who undergo TURBT.
Novel intravesical gemcitabine delivery system (TAR-200) for neoadjuvant treatment of MIBC: context is everything - Nature Reviews Urology
Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) remains a deadly disease, despite aggressive surgical and systemic chemotherapeutic treatments. New treatment modalities are needed. A novel intravesicle drug delivery device for neoadjuvant treatment of MIBC has been developed, and preliminary results on the efficacy and safety of this system are available. Refers to Daneshmand, S. et al.
Open Versus Robot-assisted Radical Cystectomy: Is Standardization Without Randomization Possible?
Why do we conduct randomized trials? There are so many roadblocks preventing randomized trials from being successfully carried out. Randomized trials are painstaking, they are expensive, and they are bureaucratic. Surgical trials also have the added challenge of recruiting surgeons, who are probably predisposed to one intervention over the other, and the challenge of recruiting patients, who may be uncomfortable with uncertainty.

Plastic exposure and urological malignancies - an emerging field
Plastics have an integral role in our daily lives but at a considerable cost to the environment and, as we are now learning, to human health. Increased plastic exposure has been linked to compromised endocrine function, reproductive health and semen quality and, potentially, urological cancers. However, the long-term consequences of plastic exposure remain to be seen. References 1. Tsai, C.-F. et al.

Optimizing pharmacokinetics of intravesical chemotherapy for bladder cancer
Abstract Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) remains one of the most common malignancies and is associated with considerable treatment costs. Patients with intermediate-risk or high-risk disease can be treated with intravesical BCG, but many of these patients will experience tumour recurrence, despite adequate treatment. Standard of care in these patients is radical cystectomy with urinary diversion, but this approach is associated with considerable morbidity and lifestyle modification.
CD24 regulates cancer stem cell (CSC)-like traits and a panel of CSC-related molecules serves as a non-invasive urinary biomarker for the detection of bladder cancer
CD24 is a cornerstone of tumour progression in urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB). However, its contribution to cancer stem cell (CSC)-like traits and the clinical utility of CD24 as a urinary biomarker for cancer detection have not been determined. The functional relevance of CD24 was evaluated using in vitro and in vivo approaches. The clinical utility of CSC-related molecules was assessed in urine samples by quantitative RT-PCR. The knockdown of CD24 attenuated cancer stemness properties.
