Nearly a decade ago, Georgia and Oklahoma played for the first time and it wound up being one of the best college football games of the century. Playing in the Rose Bowl out in Pasadena, CA with a spot in the national championship game on the line, the two storied programs went blow for blow. Oklahoma’s Heisman-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield was superb, making Georgia’s talented defense look meager.

Man convicted to 35 years for murder of 20-year-old at Athens apartments

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced Tuesday that an 18-year-old has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for murder. Zyquavious Thomas pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18 years.

UGA Theatre begins its fall season with “Constellations” this week

UGA Theatre’s 2026-2027 season begins Thursday night in the Cellar Theatre with their production of Constellations. The show runs through October 4 with eight performances in Athens over that span. Tickets can be purchased on UGATheatre.com. The play, written by British playwright Nick Payne, invites audiences to consider how one small change can impact their life. It’s on the heavier side with a non-linear script and emotional themes.

We didn't have a newspaper, but I was lead anchor for our daily newscast.
