Sophomore Marie Rougetget made Bulldog track and field history on Thursday. The thrower from Chalindrey, France, spun, and launched the hammer in the third round. As soon as it left her hands, Rougetet yelled in jubilation and watched it fly. She had just had one of the biggest throws in Mississippi State history. Rougetet’s 69.71m mark earned her a bronze medal, and a spot on the podium at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Rougetet also earned first-team All-American honors.

WASHINGTON — A federal judge on Friday refused to stop the White House from staging a UFC show this weekend in an elaborate ring already built on the South Lawn to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary — on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta’s ruling allows organizers to use the White House lawn as the venue for Sunday’s planned UFC mixed martial arts event.

Betting-wise, the Ole Miss baseball Rebels were underdogs in their opening College World Series game Friday night against North Carolina. That means nothing. Zero. Zilch. There really is no such thing as an underdog in baseball. There are no upsets, either. Baseball is different that way. Anybody can beat anybody. There are so many variables.

OXFORD — You can give Taylor Rabe a lot of the credit for Tristan Bissetta’s decision to play his final college season at Ole Miss. Rabe and Bissetta are both from Greenville, South Carolina and played at rival high schools, Greenville Senior and JL Mann, respectively. While Rabe is a sophomore pitcher and blossoming young star, Bissetta is a senior who began his college career at Clemson.

In between classes during my senior year at S.D. Lee, a spiraled notebook was passed hand to hand. It was my version of today’s internet blog, detailing the week’s activities of our “gang.” Others would add to it as it made the rounds. Mahlon Vickery, a very talented illustrator and artist, would often drop a wry cartoon to illustrate the news of the day, which many times would be an adventure featuring Stevie O’Callaghan, masterful guitarist and class clown extraordinaire.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A federal judge agreed on Friday to extend indefinitely a court-ordered block on the Trump administration’s creation and operation of a $1.8 billion settlement fund for compensating people who claim to be victims of a weaponized government.

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s prime minister said Friday the United States and Iran have agreed to wording of an agreement aimed at ending their war in the Middle East and that mediators were working with both sides to finalize a deal. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the U.S. and Iran have reached a “final, agreed upon text.” He said Pakistan, which has taken the lead in mediation efforts, was working with the warring countries on next steps.
