RECTOR, Ark. (KAIT) - A softball tournament is taking place during this year’s Labor Day Picnic in Rector for the first time ever. The Labor Day Picnic Softball Tournament started at 8 a.m. and includes eight men’s teams and four women’s teams, along with home run derbies for both. The event was started by Nick Mesa, founder and player for one of the competing teams, Mesa Express. Mesa said he wanted to bring the sport to his hometown after playing in local tournaments around the area.

TEMASCALCINGO, Mexico (AP) — Pyrotechnic material exploded during the festival for a patron saint in a town in Mexico State, collapsing a wall, killing at least 10 people and injuring another 64, Mexican authorities said. The explosion occurred Saturday night next to the Nuestra Señora de la Luz church in Temascalcingo, a municipality in central Mexico with 66,000 residents. Hundreds of them were preparing to watch a fireworks display that is part of a religious festival when the blast occurred.

PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) - The Paragould Police Department has arrested a man suspected of murder in connection with a fatal shooting. Captain Jason Elms said Sunday that officers responded to a reported shooting in the 900 block of East Court Street. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and died from his injuries. Van Sickle was booked into the Greene County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder, Elms said.

MIAMI (AP) — An Amazon cargo plane overshot a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, striking multiple vehicles and pausing flights at the busy travel hub as plumes of black smoke could be seen pouring from the fiery plane. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft overran the runway at around 2 p.m. after heading into Florida from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Prime Air plane came to rest beside a roadway, with two semi-trucks parked nearby, according to images on social media.

ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) - A truck driver accused of shooting a man at an Orange County warehouse appeared before a judge Friday, days after being arrested in Georgia. David Crump, 67, is charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around noon on Aug. 26 near Boice Pond Road in south Orange County. Investigators say Crump, a truck driver, was supposed to make a delivery to a warehouse but arrived hours late.

SPARTA, Wis. (WBAY/Gray News) - A jury has convicted a 31-year-old former hotel clerk of sexually assaulting guests while he worked at a Wisconsin hotel. Venkatesh Nalabothula was found guilty Thursday on charges that included second-degree sexual assault and burglary. The convictions followed a four-day jury trial. Jurors deliberated for just over three hours before reaching their verdicts.
