DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - Former West Virginia quarterback Pat White was honored Thursday night at The Waterfront in Daphne ahead of the retirement of his jersey number at his alma mater. White, a Daphne native, starred for the Daphne Trojans before going on to play at West Virginia. In his senior season with the Trojans, he rushed for more than 1,900 yards and 31 touchdowns and threw for 1,400 yards and 14 additional touchdowns.

FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) - A Gulf Shores man is bringing ice cream to southern Baldwin County, and leading up to America’s 250th birthday, he’s making it free for first responders and military members. Dustin Smith said buying an ice cream truck started as a dream, but after some thinking, he decided to make it a reality. “The more we joked and joked about it with me and my wife and some other close friends that it started to sound reasonable,” Smith said.

JACKSON, Ala. (WALA) - The Jackson City Council appointed John Moore as the city’s next police chief Tuesday night after Chief Jerry Taylor announced his retirement. Moore brings an extensive law enforcement background to the position. He served as a security police officer for the U.S. Air Force, attended the Los Angeles Police Academy and worked as a reserve officer. In Alabama, Moore has worked in Wilsonville, Montgomery, Foley and Thomasville.
