SEATTLE — The busy July 4th travel day is finally here, bringing a lot of traffic to Washington’s major highways. Experts say more than 60 million people will drive out of town to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. WSDOT says leaving extra early or late at night, checking your car’s health ahead of time, and keeping an eye on road closures are all good choices. They tell us I-5 and I-90 will be busiest in the midday hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Pierce County deputies were able to wrangle a cunning suspect after a wild foot chase. Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, deputies and animal control were called to the area of 122nd St. S. and Park Ave. S. near Pacific Lutheran University for a loose goat that was reportedly weaving in and out of traffic, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Seattle man gets 18 months in prison for groping woman on airplane Original

A Seattle man was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison for groping a 19‑year‑old woman on an airplane. In February, a federal jury found Keith Witt, 58, guilty of abusive sexual contact aboard an aircraft. Prosecutors said Witt molested the woman in August 2023 during a flight from Billings, Montana, to Seattle.

93-year-old woman dies in Seattle house fire Original

SEATTLE — One woman is dead after a fire engulfed a two-story home in Seattle’s View Ridge neighborhood this morning. According to the Seattle Fire Department, a woman called 911 to report the fire at around 7:30 a.m. She told SFD that she heard a “large boom” before spotting the fire burning out back. She also told SFD that she lives in the home with her 93-year-old mother.

PUEBLO, Colo. — A wildfire burning southwest of Denver has forced the evacuation of thousands of residents and destroyed more than 160 structures by Friday as erratic winds pushed the blaze across two Colorado counties. The Aspen Acres fire is one of about 40 uncontained large blazes burning mostly in the West, fueled by months of dry weather and a record lack of snow this past winter in some places.

WNBA's first international team in Toronto is finding fans all across Canada in Tempo's first season

TORONTO — The WNBA's decision to make Toronto the home of its first international team is going well. Tempo fans can be found across Canada. The expansion team could break the WNBA single-game attendance record next week. Not in Toronto, however, but almost 350 miles east in Montreal. On the opening leg of their Cross Canada Series, the Tempo are playing two games at Montreal's Bell Centre, which holds 22,114 for basketball. A capacity crowd could top the WNBA playoff attendance record of 22,076.
