Impacts of power plant emissions on air quality amplified by renewable energy droughts
Abstract Renewable energy droughts, characterized by prolonged periods of low winds and reduced solar irradiance, threaten the stability of electricity supply, with fossil fuel plants expected to cover much of the energy deficit. By integrating an electricity system model with a chemical transport model, here we quantify the effects of fossil fuel plant emissions on China’s air quality in the 2050s during renewable energy droughts.
Sustainable revitalization of island communities hosting intermittent art festivals
Beach lecture on Naoshima during the 2019 Setouchi Triennale. (Meng Qu / Hiroshima University) The Setouchi Triennale is a large-scale art festival that takes place once every three years. It is held over 100 days across 12 islands and several coastal areas in the Setouchi Inland Sea—the body of water separating Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, home to almost 3000 islands—with the intention of revitalizing the islands of the region, which suffer from severe depopulation and out-migration issues.
Association between estimated glucose disposal rate and subclinical cerebrovascular atherosclerotic burden in non-diabetic middle-aged and older adults
Abstract Objective: To evaluate the association and dose–response relationship between estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, and subclinical cerebrovascular atherosclerotic burden in non-diabetic middle-aged and older adults. Methods: This retrospective analysis used data from a prospective registry and included 604 adults aged ≥45 years without diabetes.
Chromosome-level genome assembly of the Leopard Wrasse Macropharyngodon Meleagris - Scientific Data
Abstract Macropharyngodon meleagris is a coral reef-dwelling, benthic predatory fish renowned for its striking coloration and distinctive body patterns. It exhibits pronounced sexual dimorphism and is characterized by the presence of prominent canine-like teeth. Here, we employed PacBio HiFi sequencing combined with Hi-C assembly technology to generate a high-quality, chromosome-level genome assembly of M. meleagris.
CryoEM structure of ALK2:BMP6 reveals distinct mechanism that allow ALK2 to interact with both BMP and activin ligands
CryoEM structure of ALK2:BMP6 reveals distinct mechanism that allow ALK2 to interact with both BMP and activin ligands Edited by Joseph Schlessinger, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT; received February 10, 2025; accepted July 31, 2025 Significance Activin receptor-like kinase-2 interacts with two different classes of transforming growth factor β ligands: the Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) and the activins.

Seadragon genome analysis provides insights into its phenotype and sex determination locus
Abstract The iconic phenotype of seadragons includes leaf-like appendages, a toothless tubular mouth, and male pregnancy involving incubation of fertilized eggs on an open “brood patch.” We de novo–sequenced male and female genomes of the common seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) and its closely related species, the alligator pipefish (Syngnathoides biaculeatus).

Probabilistic Logic Neural Networks for Reasoning
Knowledge graph reasoning, which aims at predicting the missing facts through reasoning with the observed facts, is critical to many applications. Such a problem has been widely explored by traditional logic rule-based approaches and recent knowledge graph embedding methods. A principled logic rule-based approach is the Markov Logic Network (MLN), which is able to leverage domain knowledge with first-order logic and meanwhile handle their uncertainty.
