The event, hosted by the Climate Action Campaign, gave victims a chance to share their stories with elected officials. Speakers also discussed how climate change is impacting extreme weather events and increasing demand on federal disaster relief funds. Many who gave testimony said getting FEMA money was a long and difficult process.

New boardwalk links South Burlington streets through City Center Park

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Officials cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new boardwalk at City Center Park in South Burlington. The recently finished shared-use path through the park connects the surrounding streets: Barrett Street, Iby Street, Market Street and Garden Street. It marks the completion of Phase 2 of City Center Park. South Burlington City Council Chair Tim Barritt hopes the park gives people an accessible green space where they can unwind.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The city of Burlington is hiring a new police chief, announcing a 12-person hiring committee. Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak announced the committee for the city’s chief of police position. Interim Chief Shawn Burke has been serving in the role for over a year after former Chief Jon Murad retired. Burlington City Councilmember Melo Grant is a member of the hiring committee. She said she is looking for someone ready for a challenge.
