Vaccination generates functional progenitor tumor-specific CD8 T cells and long-term tumor control
Abstract Background: Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies are an important treatment for patients with advanced cancers; however only a subset of patients with certain types of cancer achieves durable remissions. Cancer vaccines are an attractive strategy to boost patient immune responses, but less is known about whether and how immunization can induce long-term tumor immune reprogramming and arrest cancer progression.
Immune cells become exhausted within hours of encountering tumors
A key function of our immune system is to detect and eliminate foreign pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Immune cells like T cells do this by distinguishing between different types of proteins within cells, which allows them to detect the presence of infection or disease. A type of T cell called cytotoxic T cells can recognize the mutated proteins on cancer cells and should therefore be able to kill them. However, in most patients, cancer cells grow unchecked despite the presence of T cells.

Immune Cells That Fight Cancer Become Exhausted Within Hours of First Encountering Tumors
A Pap smear is a method of screening for the presence of abnormal and cancer cells when cells are obtained from a woman’s cervix. These samples are obtained by getting a woman to lie on her back with the hips parted so that a speculum can be inserted to part the vulva and open up the vagina. When this has been achieved, cells can then be scraped from the cervix which has got two parts to it. The scraping is done either with a brush or spatula.

7 hours ago What's four-legged, furry, and often serves up a quick little mood boost? That's right, a dog. It turns out even short, friendly interactions with canines can be good for our health. I started pondering the power of dogs during one of my daily strolls around my neighborhood. Almost invariably, I'll …
