SAP Concur in the Age of AI Agents
Long before artificial intelligence became a topic of discussion in boardrooms, Concur was already committed to reducing manual work, simplifying processes for employees, and integrating compliance directly into the travel booking and expense reimbursement processes. Today, this vision is more within reach than ever. With generative and agent-based artificial intelligence, automation is evolving toward rule-based and reliable autonomy.
Mission over margin: a community ER doctor’s discipline
The May 2, 2026, New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) Perspective, “From Mission to Margin in Academic Medicine,” articulates an internal struggle I feel frequently. All physicians recognize the formative environment Dr. Vyas describes as something that must be fiercely protected, and his call to action against the commodification of training resonates deeply.

Sterile injectable supply chain trends driving global CDMO growth
Pharma has long relied on a complex global flow of raw materials, manufacturing resources, and logistic information to supply the global market with injectable drug products. While this system has weathered many challenges over time, it’s also one that has repeatedly proven its robustness and resilience. Today, however, stakeholders across the parenteral product value chain find themselves navigating many fast-changing challenges and unpredictable developments.
How Communication Design Works. Principles, Inspirations & Challenges
The professional field of communication design is undergoing radical changes: An excessive flood of information, artificial intelligence, social media, easily accessible graphics tools, efficiency and cost pressure – all of this is putting pressure on communication designers, as a result of which they hardly have any time to think about their own actions. But more than ever before, the circumstances warrant a broad education and require us to think beyond the confines of our own profession.
What makes a theory of consciousness unscientific? - Nature Neuroscience
Theories of consciousness have a long and controversial history. One well-known proposal — integrated information theory — has recently been labeled as ‘pseudoscience’, which has caused a heated open debate. Here we discuss the case and argue that the theory is indeed unscientific because its core claims are untestable even in principle.

The Stars are coming into the game red hot, with a record of 5-0-1 in their last 6 while New York has been 2-5 in their last 7 games since their win in Dallas on December 20th. 3 things I’ll be watching for: Goalie Play In the previous meeting of these two teams, the Stars were effectively goalie-d by Igor Shesterkin.
The Kids were alright … the Vets were even Better.
(Photos weren’t posted, so here’s a pic of Jake in honor of the stellar performances that both our Tendy’s have provided over the past few days) Stars visit the Delta center for the FIRST time in franchise history to take on the Utah Hockey Club. Stankoven slots in on the Duchene line for recently-placed-on-IR Tyler Seguin. Dumba is in. DeSmith is in.
Stars provide Avalanche of offense, ousting Colorado’s late comeback
STARS WIN! With the help of the Duchene line and an upgraded PowerPlay , the Stars get back on track with a much needed win in a central division clash with the Avs. There’s no love lost between these teams, and they provided the spectacle that the folks at TNT were hoping for in this “Thanksgiving Showdown” First period. “Oh boy I can’t wait to wipe wednesday’s game from my mind!” was my thought process upon turning this game on.
Ask Father Mike: What is the sin that ‘cannot be forgiven’?
Ask Father Mike I heard that Jesus said there is a sin that cannot be forgiven. What is this sin? Why can’t God forgive it? Thank you for this question. If there is anything that could inspire fear in the heart of a believer, it is the idea that we could do something that God couldn’t handle. Or the notion that a person could sin against God in such a way that he would not be able or would not be willing to forgive them.
Gene editing of NCF1 loci is associated with homologous recombination and chromosomal rearrangements - Communications Biology
Abstract CRISPR-based genome editing of pseudogene-associated disorders, such as p47phox-deficient chronic granulomatous disease (p47 CGD), is challenged by chromosomal rearrangements due to presence of multiple targets. We report that interactions between highly homologous sequences that are localized on the same chromosome contribute substantially to post-editing chromosomal rearrangements.
Ask Father Mike: There’s much to consider before offering one’s opinion
Ask Father Mike Editor’s note: This column originally ran in the July 2014 issue of The Northern Cross. When am I supposed to offer my opinion? For example, I have a friend who conceived a child through in vitro fertilization. Am I supposed to tell her that was wrong? This is a really good question but also a somewhat complicated thing. So many factors go into figuring out when to speak and when to remain silent that I often find people will simply abdicate any responsibility and do nothing.
In Arizona, who needs the law when there is a trusty Democrat in office?
People outside of Arizona used to think of it as a quiet state filled with retirees soaking up the sun. The 2020 election put the lie to that image. Currently, we’re watching the Secretary of State make the extraordinary argument that his alleged cheating should get a pass because he managed to rush out ballots before being caught.

Ask Father Mike: What can I do for my kids who don’t practice the faith?
Ask Father Mike I am a parent of three kids, all of whom I tried to raise in the Catholic faith. One of them seems to have a very little interest, one is relatively hostile, and one still goes to church. None of them live with us anymore, but I wish that I could do something to strengthen their faith. Is there anything that I can do? Thank you for this question. I regularly speak with parents who are in a similar predicament. You and your spouse have done your best to pass on the faith to your kids.
HLTF disrupts Cas9-DNA post-cleavage complexes to allow DNA break processing - Nature Communications
Abstract The outcome of CRISPR-Cas-mediated genome modifications is dependent on DNA double-strand break (DSB) processing and repair pathway choice. Homology-directed repair (HDR) of protein-blocked DSBs requires DNA end resection that is initiated by the endonuclease activity of the MRE11 complex. Using reconstituted reactions, we show that Cas9 breaks are unexpectedly not directly resectable by the MRE11 complex. In contrast, breaks catalyzed by Cas12a are readily processed.
Ask Father Mike: Is it OK to look for ‘signs’ after a loved one dies?
Ask Father Mike My loved one passed away, but I keep getting these “signs” that I see as being from them that let me know that they are OK. For example, I will see a cardinal (my dad always fed the cardinals outside his window) and I think that it is a sign from him. Is that okay for me to think? First, please let me offer my sincere condolences. The death of anyone is meant to be noted and each person deserves to be mourned.
Ask Father Mike: What should we make of celebrity converts?
Ask Father Mike I’ve noticed that there have been a number of “celebrity conversions” to the Catholic faith recently. These individuals seem to be getting a lot of attention from Catholics online (both positive and negative). How should we respond to these new (and well-known) brothers and sisters? I am grateful that you asked this question. In fact, I’ve been pondering this for a number of years now: What do we “do” with “famous Catholics”?
Kristi Noem did the right thing
Original Article Posted By: DVC, 4/30/2024 2:33:33 PM Many decades ago my four year old daughter was invited to play at a neighbor's house with another little girl while visiting her grandparents in an upper middle class neighborhood. While there, she was attacked and knocked down by the neighbor's Doberman that went for her throat while she on the ground. Thankfully the bite occurred under her arm pit as she instinctively raised her arm to protect herself.

Ask Father Mike: How can I know when I’m just making excuses?
Ask Father Mike I know that I make excuses. My family members point that out to me, and my friends (my very close friends) have told me that my excuse-making makes it difficult to trust me. But most times they don’t feel like excuses to me, they seem like the real reasons I’m late or don’t do what I had said I would do. How can I tell the difference between excuses and real reasons? This is a very good question.
An alpha-helical lid guides the target DNA toward catalysis in CRISPR-Cas12a - Nature Communications
Abstract CRISPR-Cas12a is a powerful RNA-guided genome-editing system that generates double-strand DNA breaks using its single RuvC nuclease domain by a sequential mechanism in which initial cleavage of the non-target strand is followed by target strand cleavage. How the spatially distant DNA target strand traverses toward the RuvC catalytic core is presently not understood.
Where do the Democrats go from here?
Last week, Special Counsel Robert Hur announced in his 388-page report that, “Based on our direct interactions with and observations of [Biden], he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt.
America is at terrible risk from the Blue Team’s intransigence
The primary issue leading to the possible collapse of the US (open border, inflation, deficit spending along with unsustainable and rising debt) is that we have a Blue Team that refuses to face reality. There are too many members of the Blue Team who will not, under any circumstance, vote for a Red Player, no matter how badly their Blue Players are playing.
Ask Father Mike: What should I do for Lent?
Ask Father Mike Editor’s note: This column originally ran in the February 2016 issue of The Northern Cross. Lent is right around the corner, and I never seem to know what to do for the season. I’ve tried giving things up, but it always seems a bit hollow. What should I do? I think we all face this challenge. We can find ourselves walking the tightrope between something so impossible that we end up abandoning it in a week and something so minimal that it is essentially worthless.
Is Kari Lake’s star diminishing within the Arizona GOP?
Last week, Kari Lake forced the ouster of GOP Party Chair Jeff DeWitt after releasing a ten-month-old recording of DeWit offering her lucrative financial benefits from powerbrokers back East should she drop out of the Senate race. People were simultaneously shocked because corruption should always shock us and unsurprised because they’ve long suspected that this is the type of corruption that so often drives American politics.
Ask Father Mike: Why we struggle to pause and reflect
Ask Father Mike With the start of every new “thing” (new year, new season, new stage in life), I find it very difficult to stop and consider the previous “thing” (the previous year, the previous season, or the previous stage in life). And I find myself just kind of doing the same things over and over again. There seems to be no end in sight. What do I do? I am so grateful for your insight into your own patterns of behavior (as well as your evaluation that you need to change).
Ask Father Mike: My prayer doesn’t seem to ‘do’ anything
Ask Father Mike I’ve been praying, but it seems like it doesn’t do anything. I’m tired of asking God for help when it doesn’t ever feel like I’m getting what I have been asking for. I am so glad that you wrote. And let me begin by thanking you for at least two things. First, thank you for approaching God in prayer. I think that many of us know that we should pray, but when it comes down to it, we are quicker to think about praying than we are to actually pray.
California Governor Gavin’s Newsom is a stone-cold hypocrite
Finally, there is proof that California Governor Newsom has gone around the bend into full hypocritical insanity. That’s because the State of California has announced lawsuits against Exxon Mobil, Shell, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and BP. It’s not just climate change insanity, though. When you look at Newsom’s own history, his hypocrisy comes shining through.

Cloud TPUs unlock many large-scale, high-impact projects at AI2
When AI2 was founded in 2014, our compute strategy was simple - we could run most experiments on our local machines, and what didn't fit there was run on instances in the cloud. With the emergence of deep learning, however, suddenly most of our experiments required expensive and power-hungry Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). More recently, a number of researchers have turned to Google Cloud's Tensor Processing Units (Cloud TPUs) for their easy ability to distribute across many processing units.
Ask Father MiKe: How could I have been so wrong in what God was calling me to do?
I had thought that I was doing God’s will; I had prayed and every indication was that this was the direction that God wanted me to pursue. But after some time, every road block was put in front of me, and I had to go elsewhere. How could I have been so wrong about what God was calling me to? This is such a great question.

Arizona voting patterns challenge the Democrats’ 2022 election narrative
Did Trump-endorsed candidates really lose in Arizona? Currently, the debate is about specific acts of election interference in Maricopa County. However, looking at election patterns across Arizona, there’s a compelling argument to be made that Trump did not lose Arizona and that only chicanery can account for Maricopa’s gubernatorial and other high-office outcomes.
How should I handle the New Year? - TheCatholicSpirit.com
Q) With the start of the New Year, I always feel like I should make a resolution. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. Either way, I never end up keeping them, and it just feels like I never change. What do you recommend? A) Thank you for this question. In honor of Mary, the Mother of God (the feast we celebrate Jan. 1), I have a couple of thoughts. First, I want to acknowledge the fact that we mark the passing of time. That might seem obvious, but I believe that it is significant.

Maine Voices: York County vaccine clinic was a master class in local teamwork
As reported Dec. 20 (“County vaccine clinic to close Dec. 29 after administering 100,000 shots”), the final tally of 100,000 vaccinations administered on-site, in school and at mobile clinics would not have occurred without the community’s countless hours of effort and support for the COVID vaccination center in Sanford.
Uncollected sales taxes and vehicle license fees
Thanks to its lenient shoplifting laws, California (or, as I think of it, Commiefornia) is almost certainly losing substantial revenue. Yet the same state that fanatically collects vehicle registration fees seems unperturbed by these other losses. In Arizona, the sales tax is called a “transaction privilege tax,” and retail businesses are required to collect that tax when selling taxable items if they are to keep their business license.
The Biden administration is doing something about the border
Amazingly, the Biden administration has recognized that there may be serious illegal activity along our southern border and has finally taken action. Untold thousands of illegal aliens are crossing the border daily, and a huge increase in those numbers is expected when Title 42, which authorized border officials to turn back illegal migrants due to COVID-19 concerns, is set to expire by judicial fiat next week, thanks to the notorious U.S. district judge Emmet Sullivan.
How can I overcome a problem with pride? - TheCatholicSpirit.com
Q) I have a problem with pride. It seems to me that it is one of my more serious faults. What do I do? A) This is a fantastic question. In fact, one of the first requirements for attacking pride is acknowledging its existence. Pride is one of those sneaky vices. It’s the kind of vice that we can see in other people but rarely notice in ourselves. The fact that you not only notice it in your own life but acknowledge that it is a problem is a great sign.
Arizona sheriff promises to arrest anyone who builds governor's border wall
Arizona's Big Tough Guy, Santa Cruz County sheriff David Hathaway, has boldly claimed he will arrest any otherwise law-abiding construction workers building Governor Ducey's shipping container barrier filling the gaps in President Trump's unfinished border wall in adjacent counties should they dare to enter his fiefdom. "There's no permit been issued for these people to do this on public land," Big Tough Guy Sheriff Hathaway told the media.
Taking care when speaking up - TheCatholicSpirit.com
Q) I was talking with a friend the other day, and she started saying negative things about Jesus and the Church. I knew that what she was saying wasn’t true. I didn’t say anything, but feel like I should have. I just feel so badly for not speaking up. Was that wrong? A) I am so glad that you are asking about this. It demonstrates that you actually care and that you want to defend the truth about God and the Church.
What can I do to get more out of Mass? - TheCatholicSpirit.com
Q) I don’t like going to Mass. I had to go when I was a kid, and I never got the point. But I also realize that it could just be me; I could be the one missing something. What can I do to get more out of Mass? A) I’m glad that you have written, and I’m grateful that you have asked this question. I must tell you: We were one of those “front pew” families when I was growing up. According to my mom, it wasn’t because we “got it” better than other families or because we were holier than anyone else.

Ask Father Mike
I am hoping to be cremated when I die. I would also like my family to bring my ashes up to the Boundary Waters and scatter them there, since it is where I feel closest to God. Is that OK? By Father Michael Schmitz Thank you so much for asking these questions. I am very grateful that you are taking the time to find out whether or not your plans and wishes correspond with what the church asks of those who are disciples of Jesus.
