I am not a hardcore historical board gamer by any means, but when you offer me a way to casually dive into them in under two hours of gameplay, I’m more than happy to give it a whirl. What I’ve found with these types of board games is an emphasis on new mechanics that players need to adapt to, but noticing the focus on poker hands and tableaus encouraged me to look further into the potential of this one. Plus, who doesn’t want to toy around with spies and secrets one-on-one?

While I’ve had my share of visits to art galleries and spent a reasonable amount of time reading the tiny placards or wall explainers of exhibits, I can’t say that I’ve ever looked into some of the well-known rivalries. I may be a heathen in admitting this but when I looked at the premise for this card game, my brain immediately locked on “Van Gogh” and definitely had no recognition whatsoever of “Paul Gauguin”.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! Many of my reports in my early education were written on a typewriter. They are powerful and really make you feel like each word counts.

How is social media changing news?

It's extremely difficult to provide news in such a way that conveys the entirety of both nuance and facts in one to two sentences. Social media has changed how long we pay attention and how much energy we put into understanding what we read. It now is on the writer to not lose precision for the sake of being concise.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My very first NaNoWriMo win was in 2022, I wrote a psychological thriller/paranormal mystery called Sea of Vows.
