Abstract Membranes with nanometre- and subnanometre-scale pores play a vital role in aqueous separations across applications ranging from desalination and wastewater reuse to resource recovery and green hydrogen production. 1 Introduction The active delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics requires the use of a carrier which binds, transports, and releases its cargo to the targeted tissue and/or cellular localization. While DNA-based drugs need to be delivered to the cell nuclei where they will interfere with the replication machinery, RNA-based drugs such as short interfering RNA (siRNA) or messenger RNA (mRNA) have to be delivered into the cytosol where the translation from RNA to proteins takes place.
