Introduction Systemic autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) arise when immune tolerance fails and B cells generate antibodies that target self-tissues. These conditions disproportionately affect women and can lead to chronic inflammation, renal failure, and organ damage. Autoreactive B cells are abundant in healthy individuals,1,2 yet most never produce autoreactive antibodies.
