Hypoxia-induced HMGB1/NLRP3/Caspase-1 signaling axis enhances proliferation of oral squamous cell carcinoma Original
Abstract The hypoxic microenvironment, a common feature of solid tumors, is critically involved in driving cancer malignancy. This research focuses on elucidating the function of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), induced by such hypoxia, in the context of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). We first profiled HMGB1 expression patterns in clinical OSCC specimens and evaluated their potential associations with clinicopathological parameters.

Community engagement enables target integration in SDG11 governance in Japan
Abstract Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remain fragmented in practice and dominated by a top-down state–market governance, overlooking the roles of communities and the third sector. SDG11 provides a critical entry point for examining how global framings are translated into integrated local governance.

The research advances of crosstalk between cancer-associated fibroblasts and tumor cells using co-culture organoids - Cell Death & Disease
Abstract Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) fundamentally impact on characteristics of tumor cells and are concerned with therapy resistance via extensive interplay with cancer cells and other stromal components. In addition, inherent plasticity and multifunctionality of CAFs enable cancer cells to cultivate them, leading to dynamic changes in the population of CAFs in a context-dependent manner.

Functional implications of polygenic risk for schizophrenia in human neurons - Nature Communications
Abstract Genome wide association studies of schizophrenia reveal a complex polygenic risk architecture comprised of hundreds of risk variants; most are common in the population, non-coding, and act by genetically regulating the expression of one or more gene targets (“eGenes”). It remains unclear how the myriad genetic variants that are predicted to confer individually small effects combine to yield substantial clinical impacts in aggregate.

Socially‐Based Emotion Dysregulation Among Hearing‐Impaired Adolescents: An Event‐Related Potential Study
1 Introduction According to the 2021 World Hearing Report, “disabling hearing loss” is defined herein: for adults, it refers to a pure-tone hearing threshold of ≥ 40 decibels hearing level (dB HL) in the better ear; for children, it denotes a pure-tone hearing threshold of ≥ 30 dB HL in the better ear. Based on this definition, over 430 million people worldwide experience disabling hearing loss, accounting for more than 5% of the global population.

Molecular weight optimization for intrinsically stretchable conjugated polymers: from film microstructure to strain-insensitive performance
Molecular weight optimization for intrinsically stretchable conjugated polymers: from film microstructure to strain-insensitive performance Intrinsically stretchable conjugated polymers show great potentials in wearable electronics owing to their good strain-tolerant optoelectrical performance under mechanical deformation. Molecular weight is a pivotal parameter for conjugated polymers that can largely affect film microstructure and mechanical/electrical performance.
Rhein Alleviates Cisplatin-Induced Acute Kidney Injury via Downregulation of NOX4-COX2/PGFS Signaling Pathway
Abstract Purpose Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum II, CDDP), a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, is clinically limited by nephrotoxicity. Rhein, an anthraquinone from Radix Rhein Et Rhizome, shows nephroprotective potential. This study investigated Rhein’s protective effects and mechanisms in CDDP-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). Methods Network pharmacology identified active components and target genes of Radix Rhein Et Rhizome.
Human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors display tenogenic differentiation potential and facilitate tendon regeneration
eLife Assessment The authors demonstrate the valuable discovery that human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors can differentiate into tendon through the TGFβ pathway, addressing mouse and human interspecies differences in regard to the potential of muscle stem cells. The in vivo transplantation experiments provide convincing evidence for the conclusion as human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors contribute to tendon regeneration, resulting in functional recovery in mouse model.
AuCu@CuO2 Aerogels with H2O2/O2 Self‐Supplying and Quadruple Enzyme‐Like Activity for MRSA‐Infected Diabetic Wound Management
1 Introduction Diabetes, a complex metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia, often leads to a range of severe complications, particularly among older individuals and those with obesity.[1, 2] In diabetic patients, wound infections present significant challenges, as the hyperglycemic microenvironment promotes the production of proinflammatory cytokines, hypoxia, and excessive oxidative stress.[3, 4] These factors extend the inflammatory phase and delay the proliferation phase of the...

Single-cell analysis reveals transcriptomic features and therapeutic targets in primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma - Communications Biology
Abstract Primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (PPLELC) is a rare subtype of non-small-cell lung cancer. Duo to the current lack of precise targeted therapies, there is an urgent need to identify novel therapeutic targets. In this study, we perform single-nucleus transcriptome analysis on PPLELC samples to reveal the molecular tumor heterogeneity and characterize the functional states of immune cells within the tumor microenvironment.

Bioorthogonal Engineering of Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles for NIR-II Fluorescence Imaging-Guided Synergistic Enhanced Immunotherapy
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! The efficacy of immunotherapy in treating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has been restricted due to its low immunogenicity and suppressive immune microenvironment. Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have emerged as innovative immunotherapeutic agents in antitumor therapy by stimulating the innate immune system, but intricate modifications and undesirable multiple dose administration severely hinder their utility.
Human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors display tenogenic differentiation potential and facilitate tendon regeneration
Abstract Tendon injury occurs at high frequency and is difficult to repair. Identification of human stem cells being able to regenerate tendon will greatly facilitate the development of regenerative medicine for tendon injury. We identified human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors having tendon differentiation potential both in vitro and in vivo. Transplantation of human CD29+/CD56+ myogenic progenitors contributes to injured tendon repair and thus improves locomotor function.

Experimental evaluation of an artificial anal sphincter based on biomechanical compatibility
Background The artificial anal sphincter is a device used to treat patients with fecal incontinence who are unable to control their bowel movements on their own. Long-term morphological changes in the tissue surrounding the artificial anal sphincter can cause biomechanical compatibility problems, which seriously affect the clinical application of the artificial anal sphincter.

Divergent landscapes of A-to-I editing in postmortem and living human brain - Nature Communications
Abstract Adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) editing is a prevalent post-transcriptional RNA modification within the brain. Yet, most research has relied on postmortem samples, assuming it is an accurate representation of RNA biology in the living brain. We challenge this assumption by comparing A-to-I editing between postmortem and living prefrontal cortical tissues. Major differences were found, with over 70,000 A-to-I sites showing higher editing levels in postmortem tissues.
TNFR1-mediated senescence and lack of TNFR2-signaling limit human intervertebral disc cell repair in back pain conditions
Abstract Poor intervertebral disc (IVD) healing causes IVD degeneration (IVDD) and progression to herniation and back pain. This study identified distinct roles of TNFα-receptors (TNFRs) in contributing to poor healing in painful IVDD. We first isolated IVDD tissue of back pain subjects and determined the complex pro-inflammatory mixture contained many chemokines for recruiting inflammatory cells.
