Police were called to a Norton Shores home Wednesday morning in regards to a suspicious death. A 15-year old boy was found dead when officers arrived at a home in the 4000 block of Marshall Road. He appeared to be extremely malnourished and there was evidence of abuse, according to police. The teen's mother, 43-year-old Shanda Vander Ark was charged Friday with open murder and first-degree child abuse, according to Muskegon County Prosecutor, D.J. Hilson.

Three Battle Creek schools were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes Monday morning, Battle Creek police said. Police were called to the 200 block of Jordan Street at 10:37 a. m. on a report of shots fired.
