EGLE lifts air quality alerts for Saturday, but may return on Sunday

Smoky conditions have improved in Southeast Michigan resulting in the air quality alert that been in place for past few days being lifted Saturday, July 18, according to SEMCOG. But at the same time, state officials warn another alert is likely to be in place Sunday, July 19. Sunday’s alert is but not expected to be as severe as originally anticipated.

Chesterfield Twp. clerk stripped of her FOIA duties

Chesterfield Township officials have removed longtime Clerk Cindy Berry from overseeing public records requests after she intentionally released the home addresses of some township employees through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The township’s Board of Trustees voted 5-2 Tuesday to rescind a previous appointment of Berry as the community’s FOIA coordinator. Berry and Treasurer Kathy Elliott both opposed the measure.

Romeo Community Schools names new superintendent

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... A former Anchor Bay school administrator is the new leader of Romeo Community Schools in northern Macomb County, school officials said Thursday. Joseph McDonald was appointed by the Romeo school board on Tuesday, July 14. He is set to become the next superintendent, pending contract negotiations. He takes over for Todd Robinson, who retired from the district earlier this year following a 36-year career in education.
