The first 'paying' job i had as a journalist was with the Garland News - a suburban twice weekly in the Dallas area.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I learned to type on a typewriter - one of those old gray monsters, forged from iron and heavy as an anvil. (seemingly)

Multi-platforming and a race to break news via Twitter
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Carl Kolchak from the old ABC TV show "Kolchak-The Night Stalker" starring the great Darren McGavin.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I'm a fiend for Twitter. It gives print journos the power to break stories before TV can get on the air.

Who do you wish followed you?
Journalists, students, cool people. (People who follow me are cool, so it's a moot question.)
Why did you become a journalist?
The opportunity to be at the center of important events.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Nope. I don't even think we had a newspaper.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be curious. Learn everything you can from everyone you meet. Master great writing by reading great newspapers.
